Update from the Director…
June 2022, Sailing through Summer…
In a country who’s history is intricately tied to sailing, from the Mayflower that brought some of the first settlers to these shores, to the Gaspee, a British Warship sunk in Rhode Island, predating the attack on the Eleanor, the Beaver and the Dartmouth, the three sailing ships involved in the Boston Tea Party (both events tied to the start of the American Revolution) we felt it was time for a call for entries to explore sailing. Whether you are interested in the history, the sport or the more recreational activities, or even just need an excuse to get outdoors, I am happy to announce Under Sail, a call for entries to explore and celebrate the ships, the people and the destinations available when you venture down to the water.
The Jurors for this exhibition will be our current exhibitions, Daniel Forster and Paul M Murray. Their exhibitions, Riding the Wind by Paul M. Murray and Voyages and Victories by Daniel Forster, with Rob Migliaccio are on view through June 10th.
I encourage all of you to take advantage of every opportunity to get outdoors and bring your camera! I hope you enjoy your summer and we will be looking forward to seeing your entries for this exhibition Opening August 18th.
In the meantime we will be opening a pair of new on June 16th, and hope to see you in the gallery as we welcome our solo exhibitor, Eric Kunsman in from Rochester, NY and Olaf Willoughby, one of the jurors of our Leica call from across the pond… along with all the exhibitors participating our Leica call, details and links for both exhibitions are posted below.

Three Rhode Island photographers explore competitive sailing, three levels of competition, three visions
A special member solo presentation by Paul Murray Riding the Wind explores Rhode Island’s sailing heritage with a focus on the 12-metre yachts, formerly America’s Cup contenders, and still actively Riding the Wind for leisure and competition. Previous versions of this exhibition have traveled widely across Cuba as part of a cultural mission in that island nation. Paul’s award-winning travel, nature, marine and aviation photography has been exhibited extensively throughout the United States as well as in Cuba, Greece, Hungary, and Spain.
In tandem with Riding the Wind, an invitational exhibition by Daniel Forster and Rob Migliaccio, Voyages and Victories looks at sailing on the international stage and the collegiate level and features a selection of publication and award-winning photographs. For decades, Daniel has created captivating images of world-class sailing events and competitions including the Olympics for clients and publications worldwide. An advocate for community and collegiate sailing, Rob portrays the action, spirit, and emotion of parts of the sailing community that offer competition and accessibility to many.
