Update from the Director…
To quote a president… “people are dying who have never died before…”
Against the backdrop of such an insightful summation of the current state of the world it should be apparent to all that we are in a transitional time… regardless of future outcomes we need to adapt and move forward because the past we knew is gone. Managing the transition remains an ongoing challenge and for reasons I’ll never understand producing programing and exhibitions online has proved far more time consuming then producing live events. With all the disruption to schedules and resulting background noise it is important to not forget that citizens around the world have been lost and that the challenges facing RICPA pale in comparison to thoses faced by the families of friends and neighbors who are experiencing this loss first hand.
For an organization like the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts, that was founded to provide a safe haven for all forms of photographic expression and provide a home to meet and share work in person, the arrival of COVID-19 has been hard felt. We are driving forward and I’m happy to take this opportunity to highlight a selection of continuing programing, announce some upcoming exhibitions and share links to view or participate in a few ongoing projects at the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts.
At the present time the gallery is open by appointment only and all programing will remain available online only through Mid-October. Appointments are available on short notice on Thursdays and Saturdays, Noon – 4:00pm, other days and times available with advance notice. Email requests to gallery@riphotocenter.org

Currently in the Gallery:
Currently on the walls in the galleries are two exhibitions showcasing women behind the lens. The exhibitions, hung in early March sadly never formally opened to gallery visitors and have been available online. We encourage you to make an appointment to see the work in person while these exhibitions are still on the walls.

Email your entries to gallery@riphotocenter.org with Unprecedented: Life in 2020 as the subject.
