The Vanta Guild presents…
Family Business an exhibition celebrating intimate scenes of Afrodiasporic life through the lens of photography. Featuring the work of Momo Akoiwala, Kai Davis, Aiyah Josiah-Faeduwor, Rafael Medina, Kincaid McLaren, Shaun Morse, Marlisse Payamps, Kevin Saye, Jonathan Pitts-Wiley, Sean Powell, Dee Speaks and Imani Ylsanita, this exhibition delves into the intricate interplay between heritage, belonging, and the diverse meanings of being together and staying together. Don’t miss this inspiring showcase of culture and creativity on view from June 19th to July 12th, 2024!
Family Business, is co-curated by Jonathan Pitts-Wiley and Melaine Ferdinand-King to present a positive and uplifting look at connections, across family, across community & across generations. The Vanta Guild is a collective of active, Rhode Island-based Black photographers who unapologetically celebrate and depict the experiences and imaginations of descendants of the African diaspora.
In commemoration of the Juneteenth holiday and the critical need to celebrate, educate, and agitate for a better future, Family Business seeks to explore the vital importance of given and chosen familial ties. Through images that challenge the monolithic Black struggle narrative that has been baked into the American conscience, this exhibition demonstrates the myriad ways family remains critical to the survival of Black people in America and beyond.
Exhibition: June 19th – July 12th

America Today:
A Snapshot of Our Time
Building on an idea laid down by Edward Steichen in The Family of Man exhibition, expanded on by Robert Frank in The Americans and with a small nod to 24hrs in Cyberspace, by Rick Smolan we are looking to take America’s portrait in 2024.
This is a call for entries to capture, in photographs, [the United States of] America today. We are looking for pictures of your community, your friends, your neighborhood, local events, landmarks and just everyday activities that represent life in America today. We are looking for entries from all 50 states and 14 Territories that comprise the United States of America for a gallery exhibition and larger companion book to document the unique times we live in as we take a Snapshot of the United States today.
From Main Street to your Back Yard, from the everyday activities to the grand celebrations and the tragedies that touch us all, we want to see what your America looks like. What image defines present day America for you? What best represents the city or town you live in? What gives you the strength to get up in the morning? What keeps you up at night? These are some of the ideas we are looking for as we put together this time capsule of United States of America in the 2024.
Join us in creating this 21st Century Portrait of the United States of America.
This is a call for Street Photography, images Straight Out of Camera and all photographs that capture your real world experience.
