Update from the Director…
July 2022, Spotlight on Members…
Our Under Sail: Experiences, People, and Destinations Call for Entries is open for a few more weeks to explore and celebrate sailing, the ships, the boats, the people and the destinations you see when you venture down to the sea (or lake or pond). The Jurors for this exhibition are renowned photographers and past exhibitors, Daniel Forster and Paul M Murray. I encourage all of you to take advantage of every opportunity to get outdoors this and bring your camera! I hope you enjoy your summer and we will be looking forward to seeing your entries for this exhibition Opening August 18th.
Thank you to all the members who submitted entries for our Third Annual Members’ Spotlight Exhibition. It has the makings of a great exhibition (or two) but we have had a number of technical issues that has delayed the jury process. I hope to have results to post by July 3rd. We will be going ahead with the juror’s presentation on July 20th as originally planned, this will feature the selected projects and include a selection of images from a large number other the projects entered. Depending on how quickly we can get the results posted we may need to reschedule the physical exhibition to September. Emails will be sent to all the entrants with the jury results and any updates to the schedule of events…
While we are talking about Members… this is probably a good time to say thank you to all our members, new and old and to announce that entry for our next Members’ exhibition will open soon for an exhibition opening on October 20th. Submitted works will be juried individually in this open (un-themed) member exhibition. Lastly as in previous years we will close out the year with our annual Open Members’ exhibition opening on December 15th. This un-juried member exhibition is open to all members with work available off the wall (sold work will be available to take home at time of purchase). Full details on both of these member opportunities will be included in my August update.
In leu of our regularly scheduled Print Share & Peer Review we have planned a pair of day trips to Newport via the SeaStreak Ferry from Providence (or just meet us at the ferry landing in Newport. This Community Event & Photo Walk is open to anyone interested in joining us for a Ferry ride down the Bay and a day in Newport with plenty time to shop, eat, visit a museum or two and take pictures. Email gallery@riphotocenter.org to let us know if you are coming so we can provide meetup details. Participants will need to purchase their tickets directly at SeaStreak.com Tickets need to be purchased ahead of time and we recommend you schedule your return trip at that time to ensure your passage back to Providence. The Ferry leaves from India Point Park in Providence and on site parking is included with your ticket. Participants are welcome to schedule alternate Ferry times to better fit their schedule and meet up with us in Newport.
The first trip is scheduled for July 6th, leaving Providence on the 9:30am ferry and returning on the 6:30pm ferry. This schedule will provide the best light while steaming both up and down the bay and gets us back to Providence at 7:30.
The Second trip is scheduled for July 13th, leaving Providence on the 12:30pm ferry and returning on the 6:30pm ferry. This schedule provides 5 hours in Newport and the best light on the return trip up the bay, getting us back to Providence at 7:30pm.
