Update from the Director…
January 2023, Updates for a new year…
Welcome to 2023… our programing for the new year includes some unique opportunities for visitors and members alike. We are starting off the exhibition schedule with our Annual Open Member Exhibition… new for 2023 we are asking our members to invite a guest to join them in this invitational exhibition. We will waive the entry fee for all members who successfully have a guest enter. Entry is Open now and you can find entry details on our website at Community Members Invitational Exhibition
Words Matter… an important concept, but lost on many especially in this digital age, where lies spread faster then truth and sermons delineating the difference between Facts and Truth are all the rage. Following this thread and coming later in the year will be Words Matter: Found, Created or Imagined, a call for entry to explore the power of words. Words can motivate, words can stifle, words can change how we view an image, they can change how we view the world, words remain long after the bruises have healed. Images submitted to this call for entry do not need to include words but should explore the idea of how words change how we feel, or how we perceive the world around us. Words Matter is open to street photography, conceptual work and everything in-between with words found, created or imagined. This juried exhibition will share the gallery with a solo presentation by member Gershon Stark of Sticks and Stones, a developing body of work making visible the lasting harm words can have on self image and worth. Entry links will be posted in the coming weeks for an exhibition opening in June 2023.
In related news… We are leaving Twitter. Recent changes have highlighted the incompatibility of the platform with our values and our mission to support diversity, integrity and share useful information in a supportive and safe environment. A platform openly supporting and promoting lies for profit is not a business model we are interested in supporting. The rising security concerns related to the staffing cuts under the new ownership has motivated us to act now and we will no longer be using Twitter to list or promote our programing. You are welcome to follow us on Facebook and Instagram @RIPhotoArts and/or join our mailing list for twice monthly updates on current programing.
Our 2023 exhibition schedule will bring a number of unique calls for entries with an eye toward exploring the world we live in. The schedule also includes a few curated and solo exhibitions to frame the world we live in and issues we struggle to overcome.
In the meantime… Our 9th international Call for Entries is open and we are excited to have
