Award Winning Images:
Second Runner Up Individual Image: Michael Tonkovic, Free Hugs

JUROR NOTE: this social marker is a human one, and I think it’s harder to make a picture like this. The human moment is vulnerable and powerful, and the “Defend the turf” t-shirt in the foreground adds a deeper layer of meaning.
Second Runner Up Work in Series: Suzanne Lovett, Navajo Lands (#5)

JURORS NOTE: beautiful light and use of color, the murals add a human presence and speak to the boundary, the symbolism of the flags, both commercial and political, speak to another social line that is strongly contrasted by the fence, cross, and mesas in the background. many layers
First Runner Up Individual Image: Leslie Landerkin, A Hard Place to Sleep

JURORS NOTE: This is a classic scene from the capital, but the way the gentle fold of the blanket covering the sleeping body mirrors the stonework is powerful. the crop on the top of the statue is also very strong. The layers and capital in the distance speak to the theme of social lines and markers.
First Runner Up Work in Series: Esther Garcia, Car Wash Descanso

JURORS NOTE: This speaks to the layered cultures in the US, the modern gas station, and this quiet, lovely religious shrine. beautiful light and understanding of the way natural and artificial light mix…another set of social markers….and it’s a vertical
Best Black & White Image: Robin Bailey, Morning Fog- Washington, PA
Prize: Print Services provided by Booksmart Studio

JURORS NOTE: The layers in the image say it all, the capital and middle America signified by the children’s playground, the economy car. and beautiful light
Grand Prize Individual Image: Robin Radin, Abertura
Prize: Fuji XT-5 with XF18-55mm F2.8-4 R LM OIS Lens kit, provided by FujiFilm USA

JURORS NOTE: This beautiful and powerful portrait of two young women, the direct reference to boundaries in the broken fence, layers of information including the two boys in the back and houses, and beautiful light.
Grand Prize Work in Series: Robert Martin, Venus of Wickenden

Prize: Fuji Medium Format GFX 50s II with a 32-64mm lens, provided by FujiFilm USA
JUROR NOTES: I love the metaphor and layers of meaning in this photograph. the destruction of a cultural space is signified by the destruction of graffiti, a cultural creative marker. the moment is perfect…decisive moment, nice light and layering in the bulldozers
