With a keen eye, a passion for Black and White photography and the technical skill to make prints with impact, Reed’s work rides the line between classic and modern.

Artist Statement: Urban Visions
Biographical:
Reed Pike’s early inspirations included the work of the members of the f64 Group, Ansel Adams, Edward Weston and Imogen Cunningham. After studying photography at the Academy of Art in San Francisco and six years as a photographer in the U.S. Navy, Reed stopped taking photographs for over 25 years.
“It wasn’t until he bought an iPhone, that photography was “new” and fun again. Reed currently uses an iPhone and Fujifilm cameras in his work. He focuses on “dramatic” black and white images and recreating the “film” look when working in color. Reed’s goal with his images is to tell a story that captures the emotions of the being “in the moment.”
Reed’s recent work has been published in variety of publications including Black and White Photography, Issue 275, February 2023.
Reed at RICPA:
Reed is a relatively new member, being a transplant from California. He can often be found at our monthly Print Share & Peer review sessions and is a frequent Gallery sitter. Officially he assists with a variety of special projects including the production of exhibition catalogs and was instrumental in bringing the FRAMES Photography Circle to Providence. Reed can be reached at ReedPike@riphotocenter.org
Reed’s work will be in the gallery through September 15th
The Featured Member Program was created in 2019 as an additional way to support our members. The program provides an opportunity showcase Member work, including work in progress or new work being prepared for exhibition filling the space with work from our members. The program will feature a rotating selection of work from active members and guarantees there will always be member work on view when you visit the gallery. Unfortunately 2020 went in unexpected directions and we delayed launching the program until it could be offered as an in person experience.
Featured Member profiles will appear Online, in our Newsletter and most importantly In the Gallery where the Prints, and the Member can be seen in person.
