A Juried look at Contemporary Photography
Our 11th International Open Call exhibition will open on May 15th as a showcase for contemporary photography as complied by Zora J Murff & Rana Young, Providence based artists teaching at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University. The work in this exhibition was selected from an international call for entries to provide an updated look at current photographic practice. The 55 photographs selected were drawn from a pool of almost 700 images to create this exhibition and we would like to thank everyone who submitted work for consideration. In the end, the exhibition brings together the work of 55 photographers from 19 States, Canada and Italy to be a part of our 11th Open Call Exhibition. We are excited to be able to continue this annual exhibition, providing the opportunity to bring the work of so many new photographers to Providence. We will be reviewing all entries at a later date as we look for photographers to feature in 2026 and beyond.

About the Jurors: Zora J Murff & Rana Young are artists and educators based in Providence, RI; both earned their MFA in Studio Art from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and currently teach photography courses at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) at Tufts University, previously, having taught in the School of Art at the University of Arkansas (2018–23).
Prints from their collaborative series, Fade Like a Sigh, were acquired for the permanent collection at San Fransisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) and displayed as part of the Sightlines: Photographs from the Collection exhibition (August 6, 2022 — May 7, 2023). Solo exhibitions of their work have been hosted nationally. Their work has been written about for Hyperallergic and the British Journal of Photography, featured in the Huffington Post, and published in-print with LensCultureand Gnomic Book.
From 2019–21, Murff and Young conceptualized and funded a curatorial project, Take It From Here, featuring artworks by ten emerging lens-based photographers who use the camera as a multifaceted site of imagination, play, and self-exploration. The project traveled to Abakus Projects (Boston, MA), Missouri State University (Springfield, MO), Filter Space (Chicago, IL), and Washington University (St. Louis, MO). They partnered with Travis Shaffer, Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri, to create a limited edition Risograph exhibition catalog; the publication received a ‘Jurors’ Special Mention’ at the 2021 Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards.
