Our exhibitions in celebration of Women’s History month have been extended but sadly only available online. You can view both gallery exhibitions, Behind the Lens 2020: Women in Photography and Visual Conversations in a Virtual Reality format giving you the ability to move through the gallery and view the exhibitions as installed. This interactive virtual walkthrough is available to you 24/7. I hope you enjoy taking a walk through our galleries and spend some time thinking about sequencing, pairing and scale. These gallery exhibitions represent our 4th annual celebration of Women’s History Month.
While the photographers included in our gallery exhibitions cover a broad age range from high school senior on up, eleven artists represent a very narrow look at any topic. That being the case, from the outset we planned to invite the world in to participate in an expanded online companion exhibition. Behind the Lens Plus was conceived as an effort to include as many female perspectives as possible in one visual conversation, not to promote a particular agenda but to demonstrate that perhaps gender does not define a particular set of thoughts or qualities.
I’m pleased to present the first chapter of Behind the Lens Plus, our first online curated exhibition. I hope you enjoy this presentation and feel free to connect with the photographers directly and let them know how you found their work. The call for Behind the Lens Plus is ongoing and we will be presenting the work of more contemporary photographers from around the world bi-weekly.
Upcoming events:
We will be launching our next open call for an online exhibition shortly and this call will be open to everyone…
We have postponed our planned April exhibition, a group exhibition of Rhode Island based photographers and a project that served as the jumping off point for the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts. We are looking to reschedule but will be presenting a small sampling of their work and video interviews with each of the photographers. Look for these on the website in the coming weeks…
We hope to keep you engaged and continue to provide a platform for you to share your photography in the coming months and beyond.
Please check our website for updates or follow us on social media @RIPhotoArts as we expand our online programing. In addition to our calls for online exhibitions we will be hosting a series of Instagram takeovers to keep things interesting.
