Dance of the Orchids…
From observation to photograph, from photograph to live ballet, a series of dead and dried orchid blooms become the inspiration for and integral characters in a performance by Festival Ballet Providence.
Member A. Cemal Ekin writes about his project “As the blossoms wilted and fell, I let them dry as they fell on the table… they all dried and curled their petals in unique ways. As I started to photograph them, I realized that in their dried… state they appeared to be dancing.” From the resulting set of photographs titled “Dance of the Orchids” came an original ballet. The ballet, Orchis was born out of the dried petals of these orchid blossoms and performed by Festival Ballet Providence with a selection of the photographs projected on the backdrop.
