The exhibition has been quite popular with our local audience and attracted visitors from across the Northeast to see the work in person. The exhibition will remain available online at Interlines, Lifelines & Redlines Exhibition but is best viewed in person. I hope you can join us for the Zoom talk with the Juror and Awards presentation on November 9th at 7:30pm. Registration is required and available here. This talk with Eric Kunsman will include comments on the exhibition, the awards presentation and a snapshot of some related projects that have been keeping Eric busy this past year (and well into the future). The exhibition is available in the gallery, but will be closing at 6:00pm on November 10th…
Our Payphone Scavenger Hunt (one of the related projects mentioned above) is wrapping up in the gallery… Entry is still free and available online Entry for the larger online map project will remain open but the deadline for the in gallery presentation will close on November 15th. Our curated selection is being presented in the gallery in tandem with our Interlines, Lifelines, Redlines exhibition and will remain on view in the gallery through at least the end of the year. We will be hosting a talk with Eric Kunsman in December to review the entries, and provide an update on the FREEPhone project (another of the related projects mentioned above) that grew out of this initiative.
For our next exhibition opening November 16th, I am very excited to be brining a truly international collection of photographers to the Rhode Island Center of Photographic Arts. On November 16th we will be hosting the first Member exhibition for the FRAMES Photography Circle. The Circle is a membership program for FRAMES magazine subscribers providing extra content, online interviews, monthly online meetings and more.
FRAMES is a quarterly print magazine dedicated to sharing and providing a place to showcase contemporary photography from around the world. Their tag line, “Because Excellent Photography Belongs On Paper” reflects our mission here at the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts and rest of their mission statement parallels most of our major goals. The primary difference is our focus on a physical gallery experience and the in person opportunities for our Members and visitors alike, while FRAMES packages its content for home delivery, both in print and in the supplemental online content.
We are excited to be hosting this first group exhibition of work from Circle Members and to present a truly international collection of photographers.
Entry is open for our 5th Annual Juried Member Exhibition and I am excited to announce we will be the starting the new year with Jessica Burko as the juror for this exhibition. I am also pleased to share that this year we have streamlined the entry process and moved all our Member exhibitions to a Google based entry system. For our members this provides a one step process, with a form to fill out online and attach your images to directly. FRAMES Photography Circle Member Exhibition
FRAMES Photography Circle, a Swiss based, international collection of photographers, is coming to Providence to share their work in their first gallery exhibition. I hope you can join us on November 16th to meet the members and view their work. The mission for FRAMES, a quarterly print publication, and the related Photography Circle closely parallels our mission, and vision at the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts. Hosting an exhibition for this talented group, who up to this point, have only had the opportunity to share their work online continues our mission to build community and provide a space to view contemporary photography on the walls and in person. The exhibition will bring new work, new points of view and work not readily accessible elsewhere to walls of our gallery.
About FRAMES: from the Founder & Editor Tomasz Trzebiatowski
The FRAMES Photography Circle (FPC) is an international group of members who share a deep passion for photography and are interested in furthering their photographic knowledge and skills. It is directly tied to the FRAMES Magazine, a well-respected quarterly printed photography publication. Members of the FPC are part of an international network, exchanging not only photographic expertise and knowledge but also business connections and life experiences. Members have regular and exclusive access to some of the world’s top photographers and artists in person – not only online but also during occasional on-location meetings organized in the major cities in different parts of the world.
One of the objectives of FPC activities is to present our members with regular opportunities to exhibit their photographic work in various international locations and to get involved in a self-curation process consciously.
Currently in the Gallery: through November 10th
Interlines, Lifelines & Redlines: Social Markers of Race, Class & Economics
Building on work done for the FSA and what might be for some, a new way of seeing, this juried exhibition looked to explore and document ideas of community and the structures or situations that we use to consciously or unconsciously assign value or status of a neighborhood. The exhibition presents a mix on Street Photography and Documentary photography to capture the present through a wider lens, to explore and question what you see in your community, what you see in neighboring communities. “Good Neighborhoods” “Bad Neighborhoods” As we discuss infrastructure on a national level, what landmarks, signposts or stores do you use to evaluate need, health, or affluence of a community?
Join us on Zoom for the Juror’s talk and Awards Presentation Registration is required for this free presentation scheduled for Thursday November 9th at 7:30pm. The award winning entries will be revealed…
