Update from the Director…
June 2021 is here… and more in person activities are coming together as summer slowly arrives.
In the meantime… Entry for our Second Annual Juried Members’ Spotlight Exhibition will be closing soon. The exhibition will be juried by David H Wells and in a departure from most juried exhibitions, work submitted will be juried as a set, not as individual images. Still time to enter, full details on our website with entry available via email.
Live in the gallery we have A New Leaf through June 11th juried by Elin Spring and Suzanne Révy. It will be followed by Photography Without a Lens… juried last year by Ann Jastrup and originally planned for June 2020. We will be hosting an opening reception on June 17th 2021 for this delayed live gallery presentation… This exhibition is available online but we are looking forward to presenting this work live in the gallery as it was intended to be experienced.
Looking a little further ahead… we have two other calls for entries that are currently open to members and non-members alike for exhibitions in August and September. Jurors for these exhibitions are Kat Kiernan, Editor-in-Chief of the photography magazine Don’t Take Pictures and Jan Howard, Curator of Prints, Drawings and Photographs at the RISD Museum… see links below for more information.
The gallery is open Thursdays – Saturdays Noon – 6:00pm and our schedule continues as a mix of both live and online exhibitions. I hope to see more of you in person as the year progresses. Read on for details and links to the events mentioned above and some additional events at the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts.

Call for Entries:
Closing soon – Second Annual Juried Members’ Spotlight Exhibition with David H. Wells
Entry for this exhibition will be closing soon and is open to all current members (membership can be purchased with entry) and is designed to provide members the chance to have their work featured rather than just included in an exhibition. Work submitted will be juried as a set, each member is eligible to enter up to five images, that if selected will be exhibited together. This is a chance to present work that carries across a group of images or exhibit a larger selection of images than a typical member show or call for entry allows.
A Fall of Rain: Call for Entries with Kat Kiernan
Building on our general theme of moving forward and exploring a world renewed, the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts is accepting entries to address the theme, A Fall of Rain for an exhibition opening on August 19th. This Call for photography is open to all styles and photographic processes and will be juried by Kat Kiernan, Editor-in-Chief of the photography magazine Don’t Take Pictures.
All Together Now: Call for Entries with Jan Howard
After a year of challenges the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts is accepting entries to explore ideas related to community and address how Community is reflected in your photographic practice for an exhibition opening on September 16th. This Call is open to all styles and photographic processes and will be juried by Jan Howard, Curator of Prints, Drawings and Photographs at the RISD Museum.

In the Community:
Coastal Rhode Island is an invitational exhibition presenting a look at our local community from a group of Members who live and work there. This exhibition is on view at the McGrath Judicial Complex in Wakefield, RI. through September. We are pleased to have the opportunity to present this showcase of member work in the community in conjunction with the Supreme Court’s Art in the Courthouse exhibition series. The series was launched in 2002 with the goal of bringing original and vibrant art to the somber courthouse walls for the spring and summer months. There is a public reception scheduled for September 11th. The J. Howard McGrath Judicial Complex is located at 4800 Tower Hill Rd. Wakefield, R.I.
