Update from the Director…
January, 2022 is here… and with it an updated exhibition schedule that includes a number of new Member exhibition opportunities and programs. We will again be starting the year off with the Director’s Choice Exhibition… This year’s exhibition will present a selection of work from the RICPA collection along with work from my personal collection and some of my own photography, including a selection of new work and work only previously seen in promotions for events at the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts. The exhibition includes a selection of books and works in alternate media with proceeds from the sale of all works going to cover operating costs. The exhibition will be presented alongside a solo exhibition of work from Member James Hunt. James will be presenting a selection of work from his Draper Factory Demolition project.
Entry for our 8th Annual International Call for Contemporary Photography is open through February 18th. After a two year pause, exhibition will be juried by Jessica Roscio, Director and Curator of the Danforth Art Museum at Framingham State University and presented online and live in our galleries in late April.
New for 2022, as part of our Member activities we are offering individual feedback sessions with the Director. This is a chance to preview new work, share ideas, explore future directions or projects in development. Sessions can also be used to present exhibition ready work. Opportunities for individual portfolio/project reviews are available via Zoom or live in the gallery. Scheduling is available on our website for sessions available in a number of formats to better suit your individual needs.
In the meantime our 2021 annual Open Members’ Exhibition continues through January 14th and features Futures and Favorites – A selection of Members’ favorite photographs or work from projects in progress.
The gallery is open Thursdays – Saturdays Noon – 6:00pm and our schedule continues as a mix of both live and online exhibitions. We are not hosting an in person Print Share in January and the February session will be announced pending then current COVID restrictions.

Curated by Emily Belz: Stitches in Time will be presented as part of our annual Behind the Lens series to explore domestic and family driven narratives from five women photographers. The collected work asks us to reexamine the fabric of our society, the ties that bind and the “stitches” that hold us together. The exhibition brings together a selection of work from Becky Behar, Coco McCabe, Michelle Petersen, Gail Samuelson, and Erin Sweeney to explore gender stereotypes, time management and domestic narratives through a 21st Century lens. Opening February 17th.
