April 2022…
I am sad to share the passing of Philip Jameson. I met Philip through NetWorks Rhode Island, a project highlighting the work of selected artists who have played vital roles in shaping the contemporary visual arts community in Rhode Island. Philip’s passion was for grand landscapes captured with a large format camera and crafted in the darkroom. A true gentleman who’s passion and commitment to the craft of photography won’t soon be forgotten. A short bio and samples of his work are included in his feature in our NetWorksRI Photography 2020 exhibition. Planned as a gallery exhibition in 2020 the exhibition was presented online only as a series of features on the member photographers. The full collection can be viewed on our website at NetWorksRI Photography Exhibition 2020.
Philip Jamoulis Jameson: The NetWorksRI Photography Exhibition 2020
I am greatly saddened on hearing of Mr. Jameson’s passing. I had the privilege of meeting Phil on several photography workshops that I and my friend, Gary Adams conducted during the late 1980’s and early 90’s in the Southwest. Phil loved the landscapes of the American West and worked with the challenging 8×10 large format cameras. It was a pleasure working with him and we became friends and corresponded often. I will miss his creative spirit and his great sense of humor. He invited me to visit his beautiful home in Providence one year as he was having an exhibition in Maine and it was at the height of the fall color season. We always had a great time out scouting for images and getting into many adventures out in the landscape. I’m happy that his superb photography and legacy will be preserved in the many museums and cultural institutions that have acquired his work. To his family and all who were lucky enough to know him, except my deepest condolences.
