About the Work:
“The photographs in HOLDUP in the HOOD are taken from a larger body of work that documents an after-school, collaborative arts curriculum rooted in the discipline of self-portraiture. The curriculum took place in the Manchester area of Pittsburgh, PA. with students coming from the local Charter and Public schools. This project evolved over a 13 year period and incorporates photographs, drawings, re-cycled photographs/print media and body gesture to explore issues of identity including: race, class and gender.”
