Introducing Keith Prue,
Our First Featured Member of 2024
We are pleased to be presenting a curated look at one of Keith Prue’s current projects, The i Within. This ongoing project is a studied look at modern Istanbul, drawn from multiple trips to Turkey starting in 2019. Rooted in street photography and presented through carefully crafted black and white prints, Prue presents an interesting and at times humorous look at everyday life in Istanbul. The work offers a unique series of observations that serve to capture the unintentional and often mixed messages that abound in modern day Istanbul, as the ancient culture clashes with realities of the 21st century.
Keith is currently working on The i Within as a book that will include a wider selection of his photographs to provide a more in-depth look. We will add a link when the book becomes available for purchase.
Keith’s work is on display through March 15th in a section of our Streetside Gallery reserved to feature member work on an ongoing basis. More of Prue’s work can be found on his website at keithprue.com
Artist Statement: The i Within
Biographical:
Keith Prue’s photographs contain wit, irony and his British sense of humor, challenging us to look at fleeting moments of wonder through the simple pleasure of seeing. His subjects are predominantly people or the natural world, although he is also fascinated with urban infrastructure. Drawing on visual impact or contextual comparison, from living and working on four continents and visiting more than fifty countries he explores and contrasts cultural nuances.
Published online and showing in group exhibitions in the USA, Italy and Mexico, his photographs are held in private collections in the USA, Mexico, Brazil, Uruguay, UK and France. Keith is an Exhibiting Member of the RI Center for Photographic Arts, and an Elected Artist and former Board Member of Art League RI.
Keith at RICPA:
Keith is a long time member who actively participates in a number of programs at the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts. He is an ongoing member of re/vision, a peer to peer group we launched in 2020 and frequently offers his support and talents to help make programing at RICPA successful. His photographic efforts and interests cover a wide range of territory, both geographically and technically. Alternate bodies of work include astrophotography and several innovative approaches to multiple image and multiple exposures, but at heart, Keith is a street photographer. His natural curiosity and interest in people underlies much of his success.
Keith’s work will be in the gallery through March 15th
The Featured Member Program was created in 2019 as an additional way to support our members. The program provides an opportunity showcase Member work, including work in progress or new work being prepared for exhibition filling the space with work from our members. The program will feature a rotating selection of work from active members and guarantees there will always be member work on view when you visit the gallery. Unfortunately 2020 went in unexpected directions and we delayed launching the program until it could be offered as an in person experience.
Featured Member profiles will appear Online, in our Newsletter and most importantly In the Gallery where the Prints, and the Member can be seen in person.
I am sorry to have missed the exhibit. I would have found many locations with which I am familiar or have visited. I will enjoy the online photographs and visit Keith’s Web site.
