Introducing Bonnie Jaffe
Our First Featured Member for 2025
We are pleased to be presenting a current look at work from member, Bonnie Jaffe. Bonnie is primarily a street photographer with a keen eye, great timing and a sense of humor as she captures the world around her. Bonnie’s work is on display through February 14th in a section of our Streetside Gallery reserved to feature member work on an ongoing basis. More of Bonnie’s work can be found on the website she shares with her husband Marc at photojaffe.wixsite.com/photojaffe
About the Work:
Bonnie’s work on display presents a look at our shared humanity, through a collection of photographs of people captured going about their everyday activities. But having been photographed, having been frozen in time, the meaning or importance of the person or activity has been amplified. Random encounters, passing moments are fixed, taken out of time and context, presented to the viewer to be pondered, reflected on and enjoyed.
Biographical:
Bonnie Jaffe is a native Rhode Islander and has lived in the state her entire life. Bonnie credits her dad, Murray Perlman, for introducing her to the excitement of photography when he gave her her first Brownie camera at age 7. She later graduated to his Bessler Topcon Super D 35mm camera, and developed film and printed pictures in their basement darkroom. She was inspired early in life to capture moments of time on film. In high school, Bonnie began her formal study of photography, which continued at the Rhode Island School of Design from which she graduated in 1978, earning a BFA. Bonnie then worked as a freelance photographer and then became a commercial producer/writer for the next 15 years.
Bonnie’s particular focus is on capturing people at work and at play, but enjoys all facets of the art. She shares her passion for photography with her husband, Marc. Bonnie is proud to have won many awards for her work. Bonnie resides with her family in Barrington, RI.
Bonnie at RICPA:
Bonnie is a local Exhibiting Member who has been with us from the very beginning and her work is frequently included in our juried exhibitions. Bonnie Jaffe’s work will be in the gallery through February 14th, before moving to our display space at Midstate Camera.
The Featured Member Program was created in 2019 as an additional way to support our members. The program provides an opportunity showcase Member work, including work in progress or new work being prepared for exhibition. The program features a rotating selection of work from active members and guarantees there will always be member work on view when you visit the gallery. New for 2025 we are opening the program up to include a wider cross-section of members. Check our upcoming January, Update from the Director, for application details and link to have your work featured.
Featured Member profiles will appear Online, in our Newsletter and most importantly, in the Gallery where the prints, and Members can be engaged with in person. After appearing in the gallery work is on display for an additional two months at Mid-State Camera.
