Five photographs to tell a story or present a unified idea… One entry, One price
This Member exhibition provides that rare opportunity to show a collection or series of images to tell a story or present a unified idea. Whether you have a personal story, or a set of images with a unifying theme, this juried call is your chance to exhibit your project. This Call provides an opportunity to share a small body of work, and is a great opportunity to launch a new body of work, without the expense of mounting a solo exhibition. Entry includes the opportunity to have the work entered reviewed by the juror in a live (via Zoom) open group review session.
Project reviews will be provided in a live Zoom group review session with the Juror, Emily Belz. A selection of projects, including all the works selected for exhibition, will be discussed in this open session. Attendance to this group review session will be open to all the entrants and RICPA Members. This is a chance to take a deep dive into the selection process, sequencing, editing, what works and thoughts on what makes projects stronger. This session is intended to be informative to all viewers with an emphasis on what makes a project stronger.
About the Juror: Emily Belz
Emily Belz is an independent photographer and educator based in Lincoln, MA. Her photographs focus on domestic still lifes, telling stories through the traces, objects, and slants of light that have been left behind. Belz has exhibited her photographs widely in both solo and group exhibitions. She is represented by Gallery Kayafas in Boston.
Belz holds a BA in photography and art history from Hampshire College (1997); an MA in community-based art education from the Rhode Island School of Design (2009); and an MFA from the New Hampshire Institute of Art (2017). She teaches classes and workshops at the Griffin Museum of Photography (Winchester, MA) and the deCordova Museum (Lincoln, MA), and is on the faculty at Lasell University (Newton, MA). Belz works privately with artists as a mentor and specializes in reviewing and sequencing portfolios.
With 20+ years in the art world, Belz brings this experience to her role as a juror for photography competitions, and as a reviewer for regional portfolio reviews. She enjoys curating exhibitions in collaboration with emerging artists in the Boston area.
Entry is free for Supporting Members and above, $35 for a set of 5 images for Members at all other levels.
This exhibition is open to all current members and is designed to provide members the chance to have their work featured rather than just included in an exhibition. Work submitted will be juried as a set, each member is eligible to enter five images, that if selected will be exhibited together. This is a chance to present work that carries across a group of images or exhibit a larger selection of images than a typical member show or call for entry allows.
