The Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts is pleased to bring the work of acclaimed photographer and photo tourism pioneer Ron Rosenstock to our gallery for a rare exhibition of both is color and black and white photography.
The show, “Lens Traveler” opens Thursday, July 19, 2018, with a reception from 5-9 p.m. as part of Gallery Night Providence. The exhibition will remain on view through August 10 and will feature a selection of Rosenstock’s award-winning work from around the world.
In addition to his work with Minor White, and his teaching career, Rosenstock has been leading photographers around the world for the past five decades. He helped to launch the photo tourism industry when he began leading small groups of travelers on his photo trips in the 1970s. His photographic mission is to raise awareness of our planet’s beauty and importance, and to convince others that they, too, are caretakers of the Earth, which he accomplishes through stunning visual images of faraway places: Iceland, Morocco, Ireland, Japan, and the Lofoten Islands of Norway, to name just a few.
“Traveling the world with enthusiastic wielders of cameras is one of my favorite jobs,” said Rosenstock. “It allows me to not only instruct, but to inspire, to suggest, to encourage, to share and to eat wonderful food with the best of company.”
Rosenstock maintains an active travel itinerary and, in conjunction with Strabo Tours, has generously offered to make a donation to the RI Center for Photographic Arts for each person who signs up for one of his 2018 or 2019 trips. (Just note RIPhotoArts on your registration form and a donation will be made to support our mission.)
“This is a terrific way for members to experience the world with their cameras, and with one of the best photographic guides, while helping to support this community organization,” added RIPhotoArts Center Managing Director David DeMelim.
In his over 50 years as a photographer, Rosenstock’s work has ranged from vivid color to black & white, darkroom to digital, large format cameras to full-frame digital. Additionally, he is noted for his early dawn and dusk work in infrared.
Rosenstock, a resident of Holden, Massachusetts, has published six books of photographs and written numerous articles on the art and craft of photography. He is also a featured photographer on the RI Center for Photographic Arts site where you can see a small collection of his photographs.
