Be a Konstruktor, Build a Konstruktor,
join us in this unique mentorship experience.

Join us for a creative challenge; One camera, One lens, twelve photographers willing to explore their creative potential through this yearlong project.
Join us on this unique photographic journey, explore new creative possibilities working with One Lens and One Camera… stretch your creative potential in a supportive and collaborative environment.
This next generation, “Holga style” 35mm film camera incorporates several advancements, but its most unique feature might be that you first have to build it! Each participant will konstrukt their own camera, and then begin sharing their discoveries and progress throughout a year long series of in person and Zoom based work sessions. This collaboration includes the opportunity for participants to share their work in progress in the gallery as a companion to our regularly scheduled exhibitions. Individual and group efforts will be supported during this shared experience, as we explore the expressive capabilities of the Konstruktor camera, and challenge participants to develop new relationships with their work and creative practice.
You will be asked to slow down, and approach photography as a shared adventure. All participants will be shooting with the same camera, (included with registration), and challenged to create something uniquely their own. From this common starting point it will be up to each photographer to explore and create a body of work to be exhibited as part of a group exhibition, or in a series of small presentations in the Streetside exhibition space… Your story, your vision, your choice of film, filters, and any modifications you can dream up. A bulb setting is built in, allowing for longer exposures, useful for lowlight photography, exploring intentional camera movement, and other creative opportunities… This program starts by building your very own camera, and wraps up with the publication of a book documenting this shared adventure.
We are looking for photographers interested in refining their vision working only with a plastic 35mm film camera, with No Electronics, No Batteries, No auto focus, and Zero megapixels.
This program is designed to help you explore and refine your creative potential. While we will be working to leverage the unique capabilities of this camera, leaving behind your established practice, to embrace the challenge of working within the same limitations as the rest of your cohort makes this project unique.
The program concludes with an online exhibition at the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts of work or projects developed by the participants, and producing a book to document the project and share the work created.
