A Juried look at Contemporary Street Photography
Our first comprehensive look at Street Photography will open on September 18th, 2025 as an exploration of contemporary street photography as juried by Harvey Stein. The work in this exhibition was selected from an international call for entries to provide an updated look at current photographic practice, and by extension a look at life 2025. The 128 photographs selected were drawn from a pool of over 800 images to create this exhibition and we would like to thank everyone who submitted work for consideration. In the end, the exhibition brings together the work of 79 photographers from 23 States, to be a part of our first in depth look at Street Photography. Collectively the exhibition presents a diverse cross section of what Street photography can be and various ways shooting on the street can be approached. We will be reviewing all entries at a later date as we look for photographers to feature in 2026 and beyond.

Some Thoughts on Street Photography
From the Juror: Harvey Stein
I have been photographing on New York City streets and subways from the first day of my photo life in the early 1970’s. I’ve managed to pick up some street wisdom along the way, here are some of my thoughts that might be useful.
-Street photography is basically using the physicality and activities of the street as a source of subject matter; a place to conduct our photography. It’s an exciting place to work, in the open air, with endless subject matter available at no cost and with many surprises, whether friendly or not. Street photography is forever challenging and difficult. The percentage of street shots that we deem successful is very low, at least for me.
-How we photograph is as important as what we photograph. Perhaps most important is where we place the camera—how close or far, how low or high, how angled or direct the camera is placed vis-a-vie the subject.
-To enjoy, not to mention to be effective at street photography, we must be curious about what is around us; we should like and be interested in people.
-Think positively on the streets. Our thoughts influence our results. We get what we think, negative thoughts and approaches breed negative results and actions. Positive thoughts increase the chances of success. What we put out we get back. Be optimistic and when necessary be aggressive and risk taking.

About the Juror: Harvey Stein
In Harvey Stein’s wide-ranging career as an engaged photographer working in the documentary tradition, he has utilized the medium to create photographs that capture the spirit and vitality of the people and places he depicts. His prime focus is to relate to his fellow human beings in intense and close-up images that form the basis of his long-term photo book projects. His enduring investigations of groups as varied as identical twins, Coney Island people, street life of Harlem, artists in their studios, People Living with AIDS and life and death in Mexico have resulted in compelling and evocative in-depth visual/text essays that help illuminate the human condition.
