Our first Juried Instant Photography Exhibition. Under the heading, “everything old is new again”, we felt it was time to revisit this often misunderstood and under-appreciated branch of photography. The Impossible Project, makers of film for many vintage Polaroid cameras has nearly accomplished the impossible, buying the remains of Polaroid and relaunching as Polaroid Originals. They have just released two new One Step cameras under the new name and a full complement of film, including black & white, color and several special effect films. Films are available for vintage SX-70s, 600 series cameras as well as the new i-Type films for the new One Step2, One Step+ or cameras modified for the new films.
Time Zero and Beyond: Juried Open Call for Instant Photography: Open to Instant photographs, any subject matter in any style or brand. Polaroid, Fuji INSTAX, Kodak or Zink prints will be accepted including composite, peal apart or transfers. Manipulated prints, view camera work or snapshots are all welcome. Work printed from Type 55 negatives or reclaimed instant negatives are also welcome. This show is an opportunity to explore or revisit instant photography in all its forms. No theme or prompt, new work or old, it just needs to be your own work.
Juror: John Reuter. John is a master photographer, director of 20×24 Studios and adjunct professor of photography at the University of Hartford. John earned both an M.A. and M.F.A. in photography from University of Iowa School of Art and Art History. John started his professional career as a Polaroid research photographer and became the main photographer in the Polaroid 20×24 Studio in 1980. The New York studio John ran was a key part of the Polaroid Artist Support Program and afforded him the opportunity to work with artists such as William Wegman, Chuck Close, Mary Ellen Mark, Robert Rauschenberg and Ellen Carey among many others.
Reuter’s own work has been exhibited in a variety of national and international venues and has been published in a wide range of books and publications. His work, created primarily with Polaroid materials is anything but instant. www.johnreuter.com
Our Time Zero and Beyond: Instant Photography exhibition will open on July 18th as a survey of the possibilities afforded by instant photography. Revisit older work made possible by this unique set of photographic materials or explore possibilities now available with new materials and cameras. A brand new One Step + is available in the gallery for members interested in exploring Instant Photography. This new camera features a Bluetooth wireless trigger, multiple exposure capabilities and rechargeable battery.
