I am happy to announce we are planning to launch a new program for anyone with an interest in Video or Filmmaking: Video for still photographers.
Video For Still Photographers
We will be hosting discussions and informal meet-up on Video for Still Photographers and the current state of filmmaking at the Center on the second Tuesdays of the month 7-9pm. To kick off the topic and test the interest in a new series, join us for a presentation by Photographer and filmmaker David H. Wells on June 19th 7:00 – 9:00 pm. David will share his experience and thoughts on why he, as an accomplished still photographer, is investing his time in mastering video production as part of his business model. David is the kind of successful editorial/narrative video maker who is turning the old ideas about stodgy videos on its head to create brief, dramatic, visually compelling videos that maximize the ambient sound and the compelling visuals, while minimizing the talking heads.
David Helfer Wells, brings three decades of experience making still images and, more recently, narrative films for publications and websites. Many of his short films have been juried into film festivals around the globe, including Ankara, Bangalore, Jaipur, Lahore, Lisbon, Mumbai, New Haven, New York City, Philadelphia, Providence, Rome, Sacramento and San Francisco. Besides directing and producing his own award-winning short documentary films, Wells has also created short films for a variety of corporations and non-profit organizations. In these short films, and in his extensive editorial film-making, he has worked as director, cinematographer, sound recordist and editor. His short video, “Trap Fishing” screened as part of the South East New England Film Festival where it won the award for the Best New England Documentary Short, and was an official selection. It was also screened at the New Haven Docs Film Festival
We hope the program will grow into a forum for sharing production and story telling tips. If there is enough interest we will offer workshops aimed at exploring and expanding video production and story telling skills.
